What Are the Plans for the Redevelopment of Maylands Golf Club Stables?

A proposal has been submitted to Havering Council to demolish and rebuild the existing stables at Maylands Golf Club, alongside other site improvements.

The application, submitted at the end of December last year, seeks to replace the existing stables with a new block built from “red brick plinth” and “black timber cladding” with a black roof sheet, as stated in the design and access documents.

Plans also include the addition of a 30x16m menage, 16 containers, and 11 car parking spaces. An extra six parking spaces will be added for stable users, and the southern boundary will feature a 2.6m high hedge made of local and native bushes to enhance security and privacy.

Who Is Behind the Application?

The applicant, Miss E Frasle, is believed to be the landowner of both the golf club and the stables.

Miss Frasle’s proposal outlines that the new layout will retain much of the site’s existing structure, with improvements to modernise and secure the facilities. The stables will be built on the current footprint of the existing ones, while other features such as containers and parking will be strategically placed to optimise the space.

What Are the Design Features of the New Stables?

The stables will be designed with materials that complement the existing style while incorporating modern updates.

The proposed stable block will feature a “red brick plinth” base with “black timber cladding” and a black roof sheet, blending seamlessly with the site’s aesthetic. Additionally, a 30x16m menage for horse exercise will be located west of the stables, and strategic landscaping, including a 2.6m high hedge, will provide security and privacy.

When Will a Decision Be Made on the Application?

Havering Council is expected to decide on the application by April 4.

Supporting documents for the proposal were submitted in early February, and the application was officially acknowledged on February 10. The decision will determine whether the redevelopment will proceed, potentially modernising the facilities at the golf club.

The redevelopment plans are being closely monitored, as they could bring significant improvements to the area while maintaining much of the existing site’s layout and character.
