London saw a devastating weekend on its roads, with three fatalities and five individuals hospitalized following a series of crashes across Rainham, Upminster, Romford, and Kent between February 14 and 15.

What happened in the Rainham A13 crash?

A major collision on the A13 in Rainham on February 14 resulted in two fatalities and one man suffering life-changing injuries.

  • The crash, which involved two cars, occurred around 4:30 PM on the eastbound approach near Ferry Lane Interchange.
  • Traffic came to a standstill in both directions as two air ambulances were deployed to the scene.
  • A man in his early 40s, who was a passenger in one car, and another man in his mid-40s, who was driving another vehicle, succumbed to their injuries.
  • A third man, the driver of the second car, was rushed to the hospital with potentially life-changing injuries.

Police appeal for witnesses

The Metropolitan Police is urging anyone who witnessed the crash or has dashcam footage to come forward.

“Detectives would like to speak with anyone who witnessed the collision or captured it on dash cam,” a police spokesperson said.

Anyone with relevant information can contact the police at 101, quoting CAD 7011/2FEB2025.

How did the fatal Kent M20 crash unfold?

Another fatal incident took place on the M20 in Kent on February 14, where a 71-year-old man died after being struck by a van.

  • At 10:20 PM, a blue Kia stopped on the hard shoulder between junctions 8 and 9.
  • The elderly driver exited the vehicle and was hit by an Iveco box van.
  • He was pronounced dead at the scene, while a female passenger suffered minor injuries.
  • The driver of the van is cooperating with police investigations.

Kent Police seek witnesses

A spokesperson for Kent Police confirmed that their Serious Collision Investigation Unit is handling the case.

“Investigators are appealing for witnesses following a fatal collision on the M20,” the statement read.

What do we know about the Upminster A127 collision?

A crash on the A127 Southend Arterial Road near Junction 29 of the M25 in Upminster on February 15 left three people hospitalized.

  • The collision between two cars occurred at 4:30 PM.
  • Emergency services rushed to the scene, and all three injured individuals were transported to the hospital.
  • Their injuries were described as non-life-threatening.
  • No arrests have been made.

A Metropolitan Police spokesperson confirmed:

“Police were called at 16:30hrs on Saturday, 15 February, to reports of two cars in collision on the A127, Folkes Lane. Officers and the London Ambulance Service attended. Three people were taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. No arrests have been made.”

What happened in the Romford A12 crash?

The final crash of the weekend took place in Romford on the A12 Eastern Avenue East near Gallows Corner on February 15, leaving one person hospitalized.

  • The incident, reported at 8:33 AM, involved a car and a van.
  • Emergency services responded, and one individual was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

A Met spokesperson stated:

“Officers and the London Ambulance Service attended and found a car and a van in collision. One person was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.”
