A man in his 30s was taken to hospital after a stabbing near Forster Memorial Park in Catford on Friday evening, prompting a swift police response and arrest at the scene.

Officers from the Metropolitan Police were called to Longhill Road in Lewisham shortly after 6:30pm on 4 April following reports of an altercation between two men. Paramedics from the London Ambulance Service also attended the incident.

Upon arrival, police discovered a man in his 30s with stab wounds. He was taken to hospital, where doctors assessed his injuries as non-life-threatening and non-life-changing.

Who was arrested in connection with the stabbing?

A 56-year-old man from Hackney was arrested at the scene on suspicion of wounding with intent. He remains in custody while enquiries continue.

A spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police said:
“Around 18:30hrs on Friday, 4 April, officers attended Longhill Road, Lewisham, following reports of an altercation between two men.
They attended alongside the London Ambulance Service.
Upon arrival, they found a man in his 30s suffering from stab wounds.
He was taken to hospital, where his injuries were assessed as non-life-changing and non-life-threatening.
A 56-year-old man from Hackney was arrested at the scene on suspicion of wounding with intent. He is currently in custody.”

What are police doing now?

The Metropolitan Police have launched an investigation into the incident. While the motive behind the altercation has not yet been confirmed, officers are expected to remain in the area over the weekend to carry out further enquiries.

Police are urging anyone who witnessed the incident or has relevant information to come forward. Residents can contact the Metropolitan Police by calling 101 or report anonymously via Crimestoppers.
