E-FIT Image Released After Series of Sexual Assaults in Hackney marshes

A series of linked sexual assaults in the Hackney Marshes area have prompted detectives to release an E-FIT image of a suspect. Between February and June 2022, at least 22 reports were made by women who had been approached by a male on a bicycle. The suspect would grab the victims’ buttocks or touch their genitals from behind before making inappropriate comments and riding away.

How is the suspect described?

The suspect is believed to be a light-skinned male, possibly of mixed race, aged between 16 and 17. He is often seen wearing a grey tracksuit. His actions, including the way he targets lone women walking or jogging in the area, have been consistent in each reported incident.

Who is investigating the case?

Central East Command Unit Detective Constable Hannah Rodericks is investigating the series of sexual assaults. She acknowledged the community’s concerns about the incidents and emphasised that the police are doing everything possible to apprehend the perpetrator. “It is critical that he be identified, but we need the public’s assistance,” said DC Rodericks.

An E-FIT image of the suspect has been released to the public, and authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward. Detective Constable Rodericks said, “Anyone who has witnessed anything or has information that could assist us is encouraged to contact the police immediately.”
