Who are the men involved in the murder?

Four men were sentenced in connection with the killing. Muhammad Saqib Khan, 24, was convicted of murder for delivering the fatal blow and was sentenced to life in prison with a minimum term of 26 years. Muhammad Samiyul Miah, 19, was also convicted of murder and sentenced to life with a minimum term of 25 years. Zain Ali, 22, and Ibrahim Naim, 18, were convicted of manslaughter, with Ali receiving a 14-year sentence and Naim 10 years and six months.

Why was Anselam Senaj attacked?

The attack was believed to have been motivated by drug dealings. The court heard that drugs were found on Senaj’s person and that messages on his phone indicated his involvement in drug dealing. As the Mitsubishi approached, Senaj reportedly recognised the danger and informed the taxi driver that the occupants intended to kill him. Tragically, he was correct in his assessment.

What were the actions of the attackers?

The attackers forcibly stopped the taxi and surrounded it. Three men, armed with large knives, confronted Senaj, who was still in the taxi. One man stabbed him in the chest, and the attackers quickly fled the scene, leaving Senaj to die. The stolen car was later found burned out the next day.

What did Anselam Senaj’s family say about the murder?

At the sentencing, Senaj’s cousin, Elira Senaj, condemned the killers, calling them “cowards” for needing weapons and numbers to carry out the attack. She expressed the family’s grief, emphasising how the murder was not only a loss of life but also a cowardly act that should never have occurred.

What other crimes were linked to the attackers?

Muhammad Samiyul Miah, in addition to his conviction for murder, also admitted to having a blade. His sentence was further complicated by a separate conviction for the rape of a 15-year-old girl in a north London park in March 2023.

The brutal killing of Anselam Senaj highlights the tragic consequences of violence and the impact it has on families and communities. The sentences handed down to the four men involved serve as a reminder of the severe penalties for such acts of violence, particularly when premeditated and carried out in public spaces.
