A new programme of repairs action days is set to be rolled out across Hackney council estates after a pilot saw 20 homes visited and an average of three repairs completed at each in a single day.
Council repair officers spent more than seven hours at Fellows Court last week, bringing together plumbers, electricians, carpenters, gas engineers and multi-traders to tackle as many outstanding repairs as possible.
With 190 homes on the estate, the team visited just over 10% of homes in one day.
Repairs carried out included fixing damage caused by leaks, refitting swollen doors, repainting walls, treating damp and mould, resolving plumbing problems, installing new lights and sockets and repairing UPVC windows.
The team also inspected the disabled toilet in the community hall, with a replacement toilet now due to be ordered.
The repairs day was held on the estate following issues raised by residents and is part of the Council’s drive to improve repair response times and improve tenant satisfaction.
Rather than residents having to report problems and wait for appointments, officers were able to speak directly to tenants and inspect issues in their homes.
Tenants said they welcomed the opportunity to speak to repair staff face-to-face and have problems seen first-hand.
Cllr Dylan Law, Deputy Mayor and Cabinet Lead for Housing, introduced the repairs action days and said the first event had received a “great reception”.
“Lots of residents came out and we were able to fix a lot of long-standing issues – and on the same day as well,” he said.
He confirmed the scheme would now be expanded across the borough.
“Because of how well it’s gone today, the plan is to make it official and have a rolling basis of repairs action dates across all estates in the borough,” he said.
Repairs which could not be completed on the day were reported and will be followed up and arranged for another time.
