What was found at the Hackney play area?

Hackney Council reported that hateful graffiti appeared in a play area earlier this week. Upon notification, council teams acted swiftly, attending the site late at night and again the following morning to remove the offensive material.

How did Hackney Council respond?

Cllr Susan Fajana-Thomas, Cabinet Member for Community Safety and Regulatory Services, expressed strong condemnation of the act.
She said:
“Hackney Council strongly condemns the hateful graffiti that appeared in a local play area this week. This behaviour is completely unacceptable and has no place in our borough.”

Cllr Fajana-Thomas praised the rapid response of council teams, noting that they worked late into the night and returned the following morning to ensure the graffiti was fully removed.

What actions are being taken to investigate?

Hackney Council confirmed it is working closely with the police to investigate the incident and will take any further necessary action to ensure public safety.

Cllr Fajana-Thomas added:
“We are committed to ensuring that everyone in Hackney feels safe in our public spaces, especially places designed for children and families. We’re also working closely with partners, including the police, to investigate this matter and take any further necessary action.”

How can residents report hate crime in Hackney?

Residents are encouraged to report any hate crime or hateful vandalism by contacting the police directly on 101.

By responding quickly and reinforcing a zero-tolerance approach, Hackney Council continues to demonstrate its determination to protect the community and uphold respect across the borough.
