Hornchurch (East London Times) May 6, 2026 — drone photos published this week show the near-complete Signature at Hornchurch development in Nelmes Way, with the retirement and assisted-living home now approaching its planned June opening. As reported by The Havering Daily, the project is being brought forward by Signature Senior Lifestyle and is designed to offer residential, nursing, dementia, respite and rehabilitation care under one roof.

How complete is the home?

According to The Havering Daily, images taken on Monday, May 5, show a three-storey front, a driveway, two garden spaces and building materials still visible at the front of the site.

The report says the building appears nearly finished, suggesting the project is in its final phase before opening.

Signature’s own website says the Hornchurch home will open in June 2026 and will offer 90 spacious apartments.

The company describes the development as purpose-built and aimed at combining care with a more hotel-like environment.

What will residents get?

The home will include one-bedroom and studio apartments, each with a private en-suite wet room, according to The Havering Daily.

It will also have qualified nurses on site 24 hours a day, along with support for rehabilitation and respite stays.

The same report says the communal facilities will include an elegant lobby, a café, a restaurant with meals prepared by in-house chefs, a pub, a private cinema and a hair and beauty salon. Signature says the design has been shaped to support independence, dignity and comfort.

What has Signature said?

In a Facebook post on April 20, Signature at Hornchurch said the home would open in June 2026 and was designed to provide

“outstanding care in beautiful, homely surroundings,”

with wellbeing and quality of life at the centre. The same post said the home would offer tailored support ranging from residential, nursing and dementia care to shorter-term respite, rehabilitation and day care.

The company has also said the home aims to bring “luxury care” together with warmth, comfort and personalised support.

Its website and social media posts both indicate that the project is being positioned as a high-end care environment for older adults and their families.

Why does it matter locally?

The development adds a new large-scale care option to Hornchurch at a time when demand for residential and specialist support for older people remains significant.

Signature says the home is intended to serve the local community and to welcome families, friends and neighbours as well as residents.

The Havering Daily report also notes that Hornchurch was chosen for its strong community spirit, green spaces and transport links.

That suggests the location has been selected to appeal both to local residents and to families searching for care close to home.

What is the background?

The Signature at Hornchurch project has been in development for some time, with earlier updates from Signature and related project partners pointing to a 2026 opening.

An Elliott Group update from March 2025 described a topping-out milestone for a new care home at New City College, Ardleigh Green, Hornchurch, which shows the scheme had already reached a significant construction stage by then.

Since then, Signature has continued to promote the project through its website, LinkedIn and Facebook, repeating that it will open in June 2026 and offer a mix of care types in one building.

The company’s public material has consistently highlighted the same core features: 90 apartments, wellbeing-led activity, and spaces intended to feel less institutional than a traditional care home.

What could happen next?

The next key step is the formal opening in June 2026, provided the final fit-out and completion work stays on schedule. Based on the latest photos and company updates, the scheme now appears close to readiness, although the site still shows some construction materials at the front entrance area.

Prediction

For older residents and families in Hornchurch, the development is likely to increase choice by adding a new local option for retirement living and specialist care. If the home opens as planned, it could also reduce the need for some families to look farther afield for residential, dementia or respite support.

For the wider local audience, the project may also bring a new community-facing care facility with jobs, visiting opportunities and additional services for families needing support. Its impact will depend on how well Signature delivers the care standards, staffing and promised facilities once residents move in.
