Emergency services were called to the scene at around 1.10am. The driver, who was suffering from serious stab wounds, was found bleeding out in the driver’s seat. He is currently in hospital with injuries described as life-changing. The cyclist sustained injuries assessed as non-life-changing and was also taken to the hospital.

What have police and ambulance services said about the incident?

A Metropolitan Police spokesperson stated:

“Police were called at around 1.10am on Wednesday, February 12, to Barking Road E6 to reports of a collision between a car and a bike. London Ambulance Service also attended and the rider of the bike, a man in his 30s, was taken to hospital. His injuries were assessed as not life-changing.”

The spokesperson further added:

“Police were then alerted by the London Ambulance Service to a stabbing close by. It is believed the victim of the stabbing, a man in his 20s, was the driver of the car involved in the collision. He was taken to hospital, and his injuries are believed to be life-changing. There have been no arrests at this stage and enquiries continue.”

London Ambulance Service also issued a statement, saying:

“We were called at 1.08am today (Wednesday, February 12) to reports of an incident in East Ham. We were called to reports of a road traffic collision on Barking Road. We sent resources to the scene, including an ambulance crew, a paramedic in a fast response car and an incident response officer. We were also called to reports of a stabbing on Barking Road. We took one person to a major trauma centre and the other patient to a local hospital.”

How has the incident affected the area?

A large police cordon remains in place on Barking Road between Katherine Road and Bartle Avenue as accident investigators work on-site. The road is shut in both directions, causing significant traffic disruptions.

London buses 5, 58, 115, and 147 are on diversion, affecting local commuters. Residents in the area have expressed concern over the road closure and the serious nature of the events.

What happens next?

Police investigations are ongoing, and the authorities have urged anyone with information to come forward. No arrests have been made, and the motive behind the stabbing remains unclear.

The closure of Barking Road is expected to continue as experts analyse the scene. The public is advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes for travel.
