Forest Gate Fundraisers Conquer Three Peaks for Charity

Two trustees from Forest Gate, East London have helped lead a remarkable fundraising challenge that has already raised more than £7,000 to support people living with cancer.

Over the weekend of 2nd–4th May, a team of fundraisers from East London, Cheshire, Flintshire and Liverpool successfully completed the UK National Three Peaks Challenge — climbing Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowdon across three days in aid of In My Wildest.

The charity, founded by Shaun Barnard, helps people living with cancer afford specialist travel insurance so they can continue travelling, making memories, and spending precious time with loved ones.

Shaun, alongside fellow trustee Emma Bonny, both Forest Gate residents, took part in the challenge alongside friends, family and supporters from across the UK.

The event carried huge personal meaning for Shaun, taking place on the ninth anniversary of his mother Elaine’s passing from cancer.

“For years after losing my mum, I would head to the mountains alone,”

Shaun said.

“It was where I felt closest to her. This time was different. To be surrounded by so many people willing to take this on for such an important cause meant more than I’ll ever be able to properly express.”

What started as an idea last September has now raised enough money to help at least 14 people living with cancer access travel insurance support through the charity.

The challenge was far from easy. The team battled snow on Ben Nevis, heavy cloud on Scafell Pike, dense fog on Snowdon and even a broken-down minibus during the journey. Despite the setbacks, the group completed the challenge together, with additional supporters joining for the final climb in Wales.

Many participants had never climbed a mountain before beginning training only a few months ago, making the achievement even more significant.

In My Wildest was created to tackle one of the hidden financial impacts of cancer. For many people living with a diagnosis, the cost of travel insurance can make holidays and meaningful trips completely unaffordable.

The charity ensures that 100% of public donations go directly to beneficiaries, helping people continue making memories with loved ones during incredibly difficult times.

The organisation hopes the challenge will become the first of many community fundraising events bringing people together for the cause.

Donations remain open and supporters are encouraged to get involved.
