What happened outside the Greenwich Islamic Centre?

The Metropolitan Police confirmed that officers were called to Plumstead Road, SE18, shortly after 1pm on Friday, April 11, following reports of a stabbing near the Greenwich Islamic Centre.

A man in his 30s was found with stab wounds and treated at the scene by London Ambulance Service (LAS) personnel before being taken to hospital. Police have not yet confirmed whether his injuries are life-threatening.

In a statement, the Metropolitan Police said:

“Police were called to reports of a stabbing in Plumstead Road, SE18, at around 13:00hrs on Friday, 11 April. Officers attended alongside the London Ambulance Service. One man in his 30s was taken to hospital for stab wounds. There is no update on the man’s injuries at this time.”

Who has been arrested in connection with the stabbing?

Two individuals have been taken into custody in connection with the attack. Police confirmed:

“One man in his 30s was arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm. Another man in his 20s was arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm. They remain in custody. Enquiries continue.”

The motive behind the attack is still unclear, and the police have not released any further identifying information about the suspects or the victim.

Was the incident connected to the emergency on Plumstead High Street?

On the same day, a separate incident unfolded just a four-minute drive from Plumstead Road. Emergency services, including a police van, ambulances, and a fire engine, attended the scene on Plumstead High Street, where a bus stop was cordoned off.

Despite the proximity in location and timing, authorities confirmed that the two incidents are unrelated.

The Metropolitan Police and London Ambulance Service have been contacted for additional details regarding the Plumstead High Street response.

Where is Plumstead?

Plumstead is located in the Royal Borough of Greenwich, in southeast London, known for its residential neighbourhoods, community hubs, and strong ties to local faith centres such as the Greenwich Islamic Centre.

With two emergency scenes unfolding just streets apart, the residents of Plumstead were left shaken on what became a tense Friday afternoon. While police investigations continue, the community is calling for reassurance and increased safety measures amid growing concerns about violent crime in the area.
