What happened during the Stanhope Crescent fire?

The London Fire Department posted on social media around 10:20 p.m. on Sunday, 20 April 2025, that crews had responded to a fire at a home located at 54 Stanhope Crescent, northeast of the Southdale Road East and Adelaide Street South intersection. Firefighters managed to quickly bring the fire under control and began ventilating the property.

Were there any injuries reported?

Emergency officials confirmed that one person was assessed by paramedics for smoke inhalation at the scene. However, the individual declined to be taken to hospital.

What is the estimated damage from the fire?

In a follow-up post around midnight, fire inspectors reported that the fire caused approximately $500,000 in damage to the property. Investigators are still working to determine the cause of the blaze.

What advice did fire officials give following the incident?

In their public statement, fire officials reminded residents: “As a reminder, never leave candles or open flames unattended.” They emphasised the importance of fire safety, particularly in residential settings.

What other incidents are police investigating in the area?

Separately, the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) continue to investigate a hit-and-run crash northeast of Woodstock.

Police were called to Blandford Street in Innerkip at about 11 p.m. on 17 April after a cyclist was struck by a vehicle that fled the scene before officers arrived. The cyclist sustained life-threatening injuries and was rushed to a local hospital.

What is known about the hit-and-run suspect?

After further investigation, police believe the suspect vehicle fled southbound on Blandford Street before turning onto a side street. Authorities have expanded the search area and are focusing on video footage recorded between 10:40 p.m. and 10:48 p.m. on the night of the incident.

The OPP reported that pieces of a tinted bug deflector were found at the scene, leading them to believe the suspect vehicle may have front-end damage.

Police are urging residents along Blandford Street to review any security footage they might have from the specified timeframe that could assist the investigation.
