What triggered the police chase?

According to a statement released by Lewisham Police, officers engaged in a cross-borough pursuit involving two suspects believed to be connected to a burglary incident. The chase began just before 4am on 23 April and spanned Lewisham, Greenwich, and Bexley.

How were the suspects apprehended?

With assistance from the National Police Air Service (NPAS) helicopter, ground units pursued the suspects. Police drivers ultimately used what is officially termed “tactical contact” to halt the vehicle.

“A cross-borough pursuit of two burglary suspects through Lewisham, Greenwich and Bexley has led to the arrest of both suspects with the help of the NPAS Police helicopter,” a Lewisham Police spokesperson confirmed.

“Both suspects were caught and taken into custody after tactical contact was used by police drivers.”

No further details have been released regarding the identities of the suspects or the exact circumstances of the original burglary.

What happens next?

Both individuals remain in police custody as the investigation continues. Authorities have not disclosed whether charges have been formally filed, but the arrests were made on suspicion of burglary.

Were there any injuries or public safety concerns?

At this stage, no injuries have been reported as a result of the pursuit or the arrests. Police have not indicated any damage to property or involvement of other vehicles during the tactical manoeuvre.

Is there any public appeal?

While police have not issued a formal appeal at this time, they continue to urge residents to report any suspicious activity or information that could aid ongoing burglary investigations in the region.
