A 15-year-old boy was stabbed to death in Hackney shortly after collecting his younger sister from Benthal Primary School, where he was once a pupil.

Emergency services were called to Stellman Close shortly after 4pm on Tuesday, where the boy—named locally as Pharrell Garcia—was found with stab injuries. Despite efforts by paramedics, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

What happened in the minutes before the fatal stabbing?

Pharrell had reportedly visited his former primary school to collect his younger sister when the incident occurred. Witnesses say he was attacked shortly after leaving the school. He managed to stagger about 50 metres before collapsing.

A local resident shared: “The boy used to go to the school. It’s an absolute tragedy. He came here on an innocent visit and ended up dead.”

Was the attack premeditated?

A youth worker familiar with the situation suggested the attack may have been a setup. “After he went to the school he was supposed to meet a girl. Then he was jumped. It was a setup. They demanded his phone, he refused, and he was stabbed in the back.”

What actions have police taken so far?

Detective Chief Superintendent James Conway, who leads policing in Hackney, confirmed that a 15-year-old suspect has been arrested on suspicion of murder. “The family are heartbroken,” Conway stated.

How has the community responded?

The fatal stabbing, which took place on the last day of school term, has sent shockwaves through the community. Witnesses and school staff were visibly shaken, with one receptionist reportedly saying, “I hope it’s not him,” upon learning of the attack.

Is this part of a wider trend?

Pharrell Garcia’s death marks the second fatal attack on a 15-year-old in London within a week. On Sunday, Rene Graham was fatally shot during a family fun day in Ladbroke Grove.

Authorities are urging anyone with information about the Hackney incident to come forward. Investigations are ongoing.
