He was a man whose laughter could light up a room and whose generosity knew no bounds. “David never met a stranger,” said those close to him. “To know him was to know genuine goodness.”

When and where will funeral services take place?

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, 15 April at Hanceville Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at Fairview West Cemetery. Reverends Donnie Jones and Chuck Twilley will officiate the ceremony, which is expected to be attended by many whose lives David touched.

The family will receive visitors at Hanceville Funeral Home from 12 p.m. until the start of the service.

Who are the surviving family members?

David is survived by his father Richard Hackney and stepmother Frances, his siblings Steve Hackney, Joe Hackney (Jennifer), and Angel Carnell (Chris). He is also survived by aunts and uncles—Norma Horton, Charles Morgan, Carthel Morgan, Diane Morgan, Irene Hackney and Geri Raney—as well as nieces and nephews Miranda Shipp, Isiah Carnell, Desi Hackney, and Deamon Hackney.

Who preceded him in death?

David was preceded in death by his wife, Kelly Hackney; his son, Justin Hackney; and his mother, Betty Jean Hackney. The loss of these loved ones was deeply felt by David, whose faith remained a constant throughout his life.

What verse has the family chosen to honour his memory?
In remembering David, the family shared a poignant verse from 2 Samuel 12:23:
“But now he is dead, wherefore should I fast? can I bring him back again? I shall go to him, but he shall not return to me.”

How is the community responding to his passing?

David’s passing marks a profound loss for the Hanceville community. Friends and neighbours describe him as a pillar of kindness whose memory will endure through acts of compassion and love that he so freely gave.

Hanceville Funeral Home is honoured to be serving the Hackney family during this time.
