A 22-year-old man is fighting for his life after being stabbed during a violent street fight in East London, in an incident that also left two other men injured and led to arrests on suspicion of attempted murder.
Emergency services were called to River Road in Barking at around 11:20pm on Saturday, June 6, following reports of a large-scale altercation involving multiple people. When police and paramedics arrived at the scene, they found three men suffering from stab wounds.
The victims, aged 22, 23, and 28, were all treated at the scene before being transported to hospital for urgent medical care. The 22-year-old remains in a critical condition, with doctors continuing to treat life-threatening injuries. The other two men were initially treated in hospital and later discharged.
Following their discharge, both the 23-year-old and 28-year-old were arrested on suspicion of attempted murder. However, while in custody, the 23-year-old became unwell and was returned to hospital for further treatment. Police have confirmed they are awaiting an update on his medical condition before proceeding with further questioning.
The incident has prompted a major investigation led by the Metropolitan Police Service, with officers working to establish the full circumstances surrounding what they described as a “large fight” involving multiple individuals in the area late on Saturday night.
Chief Inspector Mo Mahmood, who is responsible for policing in the local area, said officers’ thoughts remain with the critically injured man and his family during what he described as an extremely difficult time. He acknowledged the concern the incident is likely to have caused within the local community and confirmed that an increased police presence will remain in place over the coming days.
Police have indicated that the incident is believed to be isolated, with early inquiries suggesting it was not part of any wider pattern of violence. However, officers continue to investigate the events leading up to the confrontation and are working to identify all individuals involved.
Authorities have appealed to the public for assistance, particularly from anyone who may have been in the area at the time of the incident. Investigators are urging witnesses to come forward with any information, including mobile phone footage, CCTV recordings, or dashcam video that may help reconstruct the sequence of events.
Officers stressed that even small details could prove significant to the investigation, as detectives work to determine what triggered the violent clash and how it escalated so quickly into a stabbing incident involving multiple victims.
The case remains ongoing, with police continuing to gather evidence and interview witnesses as part of their investigation into the serious violence that unfolded in East London.
