Around 100 firefighters battled a blaze in Aldgate, Tower Hamlets, rescuing 11 as flames engulfed two floors of a Leman Street residential block. The fire, which broke out at a property on Leman Street close to London Liverpool Street station and Shoreditch, prompted a major response from London Fire Brigade after an emergency call at 5.43pm. Footage from the scene showed thick smoke and visible flames pouring from the sixth and seventh floors of the residential block.

London Fire Brigade said 15 fire engines and around 100 firefighters tackled the fire. Crews from Whitechapel, Shadwell, Shoreditch, Dowgate, Bethnal Green and nearby stations rushed to the scene.
