According to Anthony France of the Standard, the gun attack took place around 11.20pm on Claxton Grove, a residential street near Barons Court Underground station. The police were responding to reports of a disturbance when they arrived to find two men suffering from gunshot wounds. Both were taken to hospital, but one sadly succumbed to his injuries on Thursday morning.

What happened on Claxton Grove?

A Metropolitan Police spokesperson stated:

“Upon arrival, the London Ambulance Service were treating two men for gunshot wounds.”

While one of the men recovered and was released, the 30-year-old victim died despite emergency medical efforts. A post-mortem examination will take place in due course to formally determine the cause of death.

Who has been arrested in connection with the shooting?

As reported by Anthony France of the Standard, officers have arrested a 28-year-old man on suspicion of murder. He remains in police custody as of Thursday morning. No further details about the suspect have been released at this stage of the investigation.

What have the police said about the victim and the scene?

Detective Chief Superintendent Christina Jessah, from the Central West Command Unit, expressed condolences to the deceased’s family:

“Our deepest sympathy is with the victim’s family who are being supported by specialist officers at this time.”

Police have sealed off Claxton Grove, and a crime scene remains in place as forensic teams work to gather evidence. Officers are conducting house-to-house inquiries and are seeking witnesses.

Is this linked to other recent gun attacks in London?

The shooting in Hammersmith occurred hours before another gun attack in Hackney, east London, on Thursday morning, where a separate victim arrived at a hospital with gunshot wounds. Authorities have not confirmed a link between the incidents, but both are under active investigation and raise concerns about escalating gun violence in London.

How are the public being urged to assist?

The Metropolitan Police have appealed for anyone who was in the Claxton Grove area at the time or who may have relevant CCTV, dashcam, or phone footage to come forward immediately.
Information can be provided to police via 101 quoting CAD 7771/11Jun, or anonymously through Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

What is the broader context of gun crime in London?

Gun crime in London, while statistically lower than knife-related incidents, has seen a worrying uptick in 2025. Boroughs such as Hackney, Hammersmith, and Haringey have been especially impacted. The use of firearms in public settings continues to endanger lives and strain emergency services.

What’s next in the investigation?

The Homicide and Major Crime Command is leading the investigation. The police have confirmed that a full forensic examination is underway and that further arrests may be made. A post-mortem examination and formal identification of the deceased will follow.
