A murder investigation is under way after a 20-year-old man was fatally stabbed in Mile End, East London. The Metropolitan Police Service confirmed officers were called to Pickard Gardens, E3, at 1:28pm on Wednesday, 30 April, following reports of a stabbing. Emergency services, including the London Ambulance Service and London Air Ambulance, attempted to save the man’s life, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

What did police find at the scene?

A police spokesperson said:
As reported by East London Advertiser, Ben Gardener: “Detectives are investigating the circumstances of a fatal stabbing in Mile End. On Wednesday, 30 April at 13:28hrs police were called to an address in Pickard Gardens, E3 following reports of a stabbing.

“Officers attended the scene alongside the London Ambulance Service and the London Air Ambulance, who treated a 20-year-old man for stab injuries. Sadly, despite their best efforts, he was pronounced dead at the scene.”

The victim’s family has been informed and is being supported by specially trained family liaison officers. Formal identification is still pending, and a post-mortem examination will take place in due course.

Who has been arrested?

A 17-year-old boy who was taken to hospital with injuries was later arrested on suspicion of murder. He remains in police custody.

As reported by East London Advertiser, Ben Gardener: “A 25-year-old woman and a 41-year-old woman were also arrested and later released with no further action.”

The 25-year-old woman was also taken to hospital. Police are still awaiting an update on her condition.

Were the victim and suspects connected?

According to senior police, all involved were known to one another.

Commander James Conway, who oversees policing in Tower Hamlets and Hackney, said:
“This was a tragic incident which will have devastating impact for the family and our thoughts are with those affected.

“Our investigation is seeking to understand the events which led to the man’s death. I can confirm that those arrested and the two who were injured were all known to the man who died.”

Where did the incident take place?

Commander Conway said police believe the stabbing occurred inside a residential address in Pickard Gardens.

“We believe this incident occurred within a residential address and I know our local community in Mile End will be shocked to hear about this investigation.

“My local neighbourhood officers, with support from the London Borough of Tower Hamlets, will be present in the local area.”

What are police asking the public to do?

Commander Conway issued a public appeal, urging anyone with information to come forward.

As reported by East London Advertiser, Ben Gardener:
“I urge anyone with information or concerns to contact my officers, dial 101, or contact Crimestoppers anonymously.”

The Metropolitan Police reiterated that anyone with information should call 101 and quote CAD3908/30APR, or contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
