What happened in the crash?

At approximately 6:30am on April 10, police were called to a collision at the junction of Commercial Road and Deancross Street in east London. The crash involved a motorbike and a Zipcar hire car, leaving the car with a large dent on its side.

The incident prompted an urgent response from emergency services, including the air ambulance, paramedics, and London Ambulance Service crews. The motorcyclist was critically injured, with injuries believed to be life-threatening or potentially life-changing.

How severe are the injuries?

According to police, the motorcyclist’s injuries are considered extremely serious, with the potential to be life-threatening or life-changing. Authorities have yet to confirm the identity of the rider, but the severity of the crash has prompted a thorough investigation by the Met’s Road and Transport Policing Command.

A spokesperson for the London Ambulance Service confirmed that two people were treated at the scene before both were taken to a major trauma centre in London.

What actions are being taken?

The crash has led to road closures on Commercial Road in both directions while police investigate the incident. At 08:45 this morning, officers were still managing the scene.

Insp Annabel Burn from the Met’s Road and Transport Policing Command issued a statement:
“At 06:29 on 10 April, police and London Ambulance Service were called to a serious road traffic collision between a car and a motorcycle on Commercial Road at the junction with Deancross Street E1. At this time, the motorcycle rider’s injuries are considered serious and potentially life-changing or threatening.”

Specialist officers are currently overseeing the investigation, and further updates are expected once the area is cleared and initial inquiries have been completed.

How long will the road closures last?

The road remains closed in both directions as the investigation continues. Authorities have not provided an estimated reopening time. Motorists are advised to avoid the area while the investigation takes place.

What did emergency services say?

A London Ambulance Service spokesperson added:
“We were called at 6.29am this morning (Thursday 10 April) to reports of a road traffic collision at the junction of Commercial Road and Deancross Street, E1. We sent a number of resources to the scene, including ambulance crews, a paramedic in fast response car, members of our Tactical Response Unit, an incident response officer, and London’s Air Ambulance. Our crews treated two patients at the scene, before taking both to a London major trauma centre.”
