Christopher Wilson, 23, was sentenced at the Old Bailey on Thursday after being found guilty in a retrial in December. He must serve a minimum of 16 years before being eligible for parole. Wilson, of Templar Drive, Thamesmead, was part of a gang that fatally attacked Kacem Mokrane in Walthamstow in November 2017.

How did the attack on Kacem Mokrane unfold?

The court heard that Wilson and a group of accomplices, armed with knives, machetes, and swords, ambushed Mokrane on Mount Pleasant Road at approximately 11:15 pm. The gang stabbed the teenager at least twice before fleeing the scene.

Mokrane was rushed to the Royal London Hospital, where he underwent major surgery. However, he later died due to complications from a stab wound to the abdomen.

Who else was convicted in connection with the murder?

Wilson is the fifth person convicted in connection with Mokrane’s murder. Four others were convicted in June 2023 for their roles in the fatal attack. Their sentences further highlight the escalating gang violence in London and the harsh legal consequences for those involved.

What did the court say during sentencing?

During the sentencing, the judge highlighted the brutality of the attack and the devastating impact on Mokrane’s family. The court also emphasised the use of weapons in gang violence and the danger it poses to the wider community.

What does this case say about gang violence in London?

The conviction and sentencing of Wilson and his co-defendants reflect the persistent issue of gang violence in London. Authorities continue to crack down on gang-related crimes as law enforcement and communities seek to curb fatal street violence.

The sentencing of Christopher Wilson marks another step in bringing justice to the family of Kacem Mokrane and serves as a warning to those involved in violent criminal activity.
