Hornchurch woman’s purr-fect career change

Clare Rowley, a cat lover from Hornchurch, is leaving behind over a decade working in the charity sector to launch a premium cat care business, offering top-tier service to cats in Hornchurch, Upminster, Bulphan and nearby areas.

Clare, 40, who previously worked for the RSPCA’s national office managing charity partnerships, has this week (Monday 23rd March) launched The Cat Butler Hornchurch, a cat sitting service providing daily visits, feeding, playtime, and companionship keeping kitties happy and contented in their own homes while their humans are away.

“For the last 10 years I’ve worked for the RSPCA, first in auditing care standards in their rehoming centres and later managing partnerships,”

Clare explained.

“I loved visiting the rehoming centres and meeting the animals getting ready for their second chance. My favourite place was always the cattery, especially when there were kittens!”

She added:

“I’ve lived in Hornchurch my whole life, so offering a trustworthy service to my own community means a lot to me. Most of all, I’m excited to be able to spend my days with cats. Turning my passion into my job is a dream come true.”

Talking about her own feline family, Clare said:

“I have two cats who truly rule the roost! There’s Noah, my quiet 14-year-old black long-haired boy, and Olive, a feisty 11-year-old ginger girl who lives up to every ginger cat stereotype! Both are from unwanted litters and are now pampered pets. I even chose where I live partly because the quiet area was perfect for them!”

Looking ahead, Clare shared:

“I’m excited to bring my experience in animal welfare to this role. Having worked with shy and nervous cats—and caring for my own—I really understand their needs. My hope is to build a business that local cat owners feel comfortable turning to, again and again.”
