What Led to the Police Stand-Off in Lewisham?

Authorities were alerted to the disturbance around 10:45 AM. Upon arrival, officers found a man waving a knife both inside the property and from the window.

A witness, a food retailer at Lewisham Market, described the tense situation:
“It’s a waiting game. He’s hiding himself around the corner because he knows they’re pointing guns at him.”

Another local business owner noted that police extended the cordon multiple times, suggesting the situation remains volatile.

How Are Businesses and Residents Affected?

The stand-off has disrupted the local area, with police blocking access to parts of the high street.

A branch of HSBC opposite the scene was closed as a precaution. A spokesperson for the bank reassured the public that no customers or staff were involved.
